NJBBA is proud to sponsor Disable Veterans Fishing Trip twice a year, It was the conception of Swannie Gay eight years ago. She is now a retired,  17 yr Veteran of our Naval Forces who for a number of years collected clothing for the 200+ veterans at the Vineland Home. Thinking  she could do more,” and she did”, now we at  NJBBA THANK HER for the chance to be involved.

It’s now a time when we can bond and put smiles on some faces of those who have served their country and in some cases paid a heavy sacrifice. The event last only 3 to 4 hours.

The Association gives one on one assistance along with supplying all the food, beverages, snacks, tackle and bait along with a thank you gift from NJBBA for their service (blanket, hat, shirts, sweats etc).

The trip is to a fishing pier in Stone Harbor, the town supplies a handi-cap Joni and the use of their pavilion on hot days. All proceeds come from donations; the event is organized by  Directors Ron Patten and Swannie Gay.

NJBBA Takes Veterans Fishing

August, July 9th, Saturday was another fun and heart-warming event hosted by the New Jersey Beach Buggy Association. 12 Veterans from the Vineland NJ home came out to fish on the pier in Stone Harbor, NJ. Thanks to Stone Harbor for providing us with their lovely location as well as a handicapped "rest room" facility. This year the men caught 2 sand sharks. As usual the vets were provided with lunch and a thank you gift from the NJBBA. It was great to see new faces both with the vets and the many volunteers who turned out to help, as well as the "regulars" we have come to know and love. A special thanks to the drivers, aides and nurses who come with the residents to always lend a cheerful helping hand. We will be hosting the 2nd Take the Vets Fishing On Saturday, August 6th. These are great events for family to come out and help and teach our youngsters early the meaning of volunteering and honoring those who gave so much for us to live free. Please check the NJBBA website for more info: njbba.org

August 6, 2011

New Jersey Beach Buggy Association "Take the Vets Fishing" was a huge success again. A bright sunny day saw 9 vets from the Vineland Veterans home come to Stone Harbor Fishing Pier, in Stone Harbor, NJ for the NJBBA twice a year fishing event. Although NJBBA has held this event for many years it never disappoints neither the vets nor the many volunteers who give their time to help. The men were happy to catch 2 sharks and tease each other about the biggest catch. The traditional "NJBBA Hot Dog" lunch was provided along with a gift from the organization. A very special thanks to all the nurses, drivers and aides who come with the vets. We have come to know them as part of our "vet family" and are always happy to see them and catch up on news from the home. Again this year the wonderful folks from Herr’s Snack Corporation and their "Herr’s Has A Heart" group donated bags of snacks for all to enjoy. Another big thanks goes to "The Fisherman Magazine" for giving each of the vets a copy of their latest publication, a 13 week free subscription to each attending and a beautiful book on various fishing stories. As always the Stone Harbor Police and Mayor also ensure our safety and make the event possible by hosting the site.

If you really would like to make your heart swell with pride and learn some history first hand please join us for our next year’s events. This is the best way you can teach your children the valuable lesson of respect for our hero’s as well as the importance of volunteering. Check on this events for next year’s dates as well as other worthwhile events at njbba.org.
