For veterans looking for support, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a nonprofit charity that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families, helping more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways each year. Annually, the organization provides more than 600,000 rides to veterans attending medical appointments and assists veterans with well over 200,000 benefit claims. In 2018, DAV helped veterans receive more than $20 billion in earned benefits. DAV’s services are offered at no cost to all generations of veterans, their families and survivors.

It’s now a time when we can bond and put smiles on some faces of those who have served their country and in some cases paid a heavy sacrifice. The events last 3 to 4 hours and starts at 8:30 with NJBBA members setting up all the food and gear. The veterans arrive around 10am, start fishing and are served lunch by the great cooks of NJBBA.
NJBBA gives one on one assistance along with supplying all the food, beverages, snacks, tackle and bait along with a thank you gift from NJBBA for their service (blanket, hat, shirts, sweats etc). Many NJBBA members have already signed up to help -- BUT it is not to late for YOU to come and support our veterans
The trip is to a fishing pier in Stone Harbor, the town supplies a handicap Joni and the use of their pavilion on hot days. All proceeds come from donations; the event is organized by Director Ron Patten
==============================================================
The NJBBA Veteran’s Fishing Outing was started in the early 2000’s by Swannie Gay (USN Ret) and Ron Patten (AUS). Originally held in Fortescue, NJ, the event was held in a few different locations before finding its annual home in Stone Harbor, NJ. After Swannie’s passing in 2012, Ron became the chair of the event with assistance from his family. Two outings are held each summer, weather permitting, affording veterans who live at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland a chance to fish with some of our members. NJBBA volunteers, many of whom are veterans themselves, arrive early and prepare the pavilion and get the fishing equipment ready for the veterans’ arrival. Several enjoyable hours of fishing and friendly interactions are had by attendees and volunteers, alike. While fishing is occurring in the morning, other NJBBA members prepare and then serve lunch at noon in the pavilion and under the canopies. After dessert and more fishing, acknowledgement and appreciation of their service and sacrifice is offered to the veterans, awards prepared by current NJBBA President Gary Conk are presented, items obtained for the veterans to take home are given, and a group photo is taken. The COVID-19 pandemic put these events on hold until this summer. The first fishing event for 2023 was scheduled for June 10, but unfortunately was not able to be held due to poor air quality. We successfully held the first event in four years on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Our next event is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2023. Members in good standing who wish to participate may contact Ron Patten at hrpatten37@yahoo.com.
