TOMS RIVER SOUTH HIGH SCHOOl FISHING INDIANS Fishing Indians Update May 23rd 2025 The Toms River South Fishing Indians, proudly representing NJBBA, are making waves in the high school fishing circuit! These dedicated young anglers are all active members of the NJBBA, showcasing their skills and passion on the water. They've already had a strong showing in recent tournaments: American Anglers Tournament (LBI, Individual): Kicking off their season. Garden State Surf Fishing Classic (Island Beach State Park): A fantastic performance, securing 2nd place in the high school division with impressive catches of a 29-inch bluefish and an 18-inch fluke. Their consistent hard work has paid off with an impressive record at the Governor's Tournament's high school division: two 1st place finishes, two 2nd place finishes, and one 3rd place finish! How You Can Help To continue their success and support these talented student-anglers, the team is seeking donations. Any contribution, big or small, helps with equipment, tournament fees, and travel. If you'd like to donate or learn more, please contact Paul Harris at #84. Fishing Indians Update february 26th 2025 The Toms River South High School Fishing team is sponsored by NJBBA. All the team are now members of NJBBA with the help of donations from: New Jersey Salt Water Flyrodders, past President Bob Lick, and donations of fishing gear from Fred Norton, Geo Weekes and Dave Paulick, Wane Ross and from items purchased at a flea market that we went to. We now have 15 teenagers on the team! We will be fishing a few tournaments this spring including: the American Anglers tournament on April 26th on LBI, fish at Seaside Park, and at the Gov’s tournament at IBSP on May 18th. code of ethics To enter and leave beaches in prescribed ways. To eliminate speeding and reckless driving. To respect local ordinances and the rights of property owners. To offer aid to any fisherman or buggy owner in trouble on the beach. To respect picnicking and bathing groups by: (a) avoiding them whenever possible; (b) by slowing to minimum speed when passing picnicking or bathing groups. To avoid littering the beach with trash, cans, etc.. by using trash barrels when available, or by taking it with you when leaving the area. To avoid over-crowding any one area and elbowing other anglers out of their chosen spots. This is particularly important where surf men without buggies are concentrated. To leave the track when a halt is made, so that other buggies will not be forced to detour. To fill in holes after getting stuck, and to avoid indiscriminately crisscrossing tracks. To observe the rules of common courtesy on the beach. Simplify passing of vehicles meeting head-on in a single track: The driver who has the dunes on his right will be required to turn out of the track to the right. This rule to be tempered with common sense in difficult circumstances. To ask those who park their gear in the middle of the track if they will move it and explain in a courteous manner why. Do not drive at night without lights, but when approaching fishermen, drive behind them and avoid shining lights on fishermen and water. To realize that fishing is a God-given sport and to keep it on a high plane so that others may enjoy it as well.

Peter d'alessio memorial fishing flea market Years ago, the NJBBA Annual Flea Market was run by Pete D'Alessio, and it was an event everyone always looked forward to attending. When Pete passed, it was requested that NJBBA to officially name the Flea Market after Pete, and this was approved. Annual National Hunting & Fishing Day National Hunting and Fishing Day, celebrated the fourth Saturday of September, remains the most effective grassroots efforts ever undertaken to promote the outdoor sports and conservation. We are looking forward to celebrating our 53rd National Hunting and Fishing Day together again on September 26, 2026 where we host any members with special needs children for a day of fishing! • The event will be held at Island Beach State Park, OBA-2 (Swimming Area 2). Address: IBSP, Rt. 35, Seaside Park, NJ 08752 • Entry fee into the park will be waived; just state you are there to participate in the NJBBA National Hunting & Fishing Day. • Volunteers will meet at 8:00am where we will host Coffee and Donuts. • When participants arrive we will serve refreshments till about 10am then proceed to the beach fishing till 12:00 • Break for lunch (our famous hot dog lunch with fixins’); after lunch we will fish till about 1:30 • We will host the Regional Day School from Jackson and any members with special needs children (beach wheelchairs can be made available upon request). • All refreshments, bait and tackle are supplied by NJBBA however, donations are always welcome. • We hope that members come out and volunteer for the day. National Trails Day In celebration we the NJBBA join hands with bikers, hikers, sierra club members and other groups to unite as one. We maintain a trail in IBSP and on that day we clean and clear that path for another year. Come join us at 9am that day at Interpretive Centerto set up. The first Saturday every June is designated National Trails Day (NTD) in the United States. On that day every year more than a million hikers, bikers, equestrians, and others take part in thousands of events nationwide in celebration of America's trails. These events include new trail dedications, workshops, educational exhibits, equestrian and mountain bike rides, rollerblading, trail maintenance, and hikes on America's favorite trails. National Trails Day is organized nationwide by the American Hiking Society, a national nonprofit trail advocacy group based in Washington, DC. All events, however, are planned and carried out at the local level by conservation and recreation organizations, trail clubs, and land managing agencies. Originally established in 1993, NTD has grown to approximately 3,000 events across the country. "It has really worked, and the collaboration has been quite extraordinary," noted Steve Elkinton, Program Leader for the National Trails System, when I recently asked him about NTD. Goals of National Trails Day The objectives of National Trails Day not only include promoting public awareness of and appreciation for America's trails, but also encouraging cooperative efforts among different trail users, including hikers, bicyclists, equestrians, walkers, runners and anyone else who enjoys being on the trail. As Elkinton noted, "the attitude towards National Trails Day has been so wonderful, that even motorized and non-motorized groups lay down their swords for the day and cooperate." In celebrating the values and benefits of our nation's trails, a unifying idea and long-range goal of National Trails Day is the concept of "Trails for All Americans" -- that is, to establish a nationwide network of trails that would link together as part of the nation’s infrastructure of greenways, like the interstate highway system. "The idea of a coordinated system is a difficult objective to achieve" notes Elkinton. "Trails come in so many shapes, sizes, and cut across so many jurisdictional boundaries. The beach front is open to pedestrians and four-wheel-drive vehicles for such wildlife-oriented activities as wildlife observation, photography, nature study, and fishing. Bayside mudflats may remain closed until later September to protect migrating shorebirds. (Drivers must possess a valid Long Beach Township beach buggy permit for the vehicle they are driving.) It is recommended that vehicles use the intertidal zone when possible. Its' harder packed sands provide better traction than the loose sands of the beach. Occasionally some areas of Holgate's beach may not be accessible to vehicles due to ongoing, naturally occurring variations in beach width, or because of excessively high tides. objectives To join in a formal organization all persons interested in the preservation of natural beach resources whether privately owned, or property of local, state or federal government; To promote a closer relationship among all owners of sport fishing vehicles and surf fishermen; To work as an instrument to create better public relations between the sportsmen, the public, and local, state or federal government to secure acceptance of certain rules which will benefit the sport of beach travel and salt water fishing now and for future generations; To encourage members to adhere to the Association's Code of Ethics which stresses conservation, safety and courtesy; To obey the laws of the municipality, the state and the nation, in pursuit of the sport; To work to secure needed legislation or reform in the public interest; To encourage and promote good sportsmanship and to uphold conservation laws; To engage in studies and disseminate information relating to marine waters, marine species and beach travel operations; To take membership with any national or state wide council or group of councils, or association, if deemed to further the interests of the above purpose.
